Sono al secondo EP i Keen, band di Sulmona (AQ) attiva dal 2003: la proposta dei cinque ragazzi è tanto particolare quanto oscura e potrebbe spaccare in due il pubblico. La band, infatti, mischia con tranquillità, sfacciataggine e classe ritmi e.b.m., riff thrash, vocals aggressive e altro ancora: il risultato sono canzoni che sembrano naturali e assolutamente nè forzate nè studiate a tavolino.

Il fulcro del Keen-sound è sicuramente da ricercare nel lavoro di Kevin: fra sintetizzatori, samples e loops c'è di che perdersi: fortunatamente i riff taglienti di Critz tengono l'ascoltatore ancorato al terreno, ed i ritmi marziali imposti da Irham alla batteria sembrano riportare alla mente "Sehnsucht" dei Rammstein.

A farla da padrone rimane sempre e comunque la voce di Shirley, bravissimo sia ad ammaliare che a graffiare l'ascoltatore, grazie ad un ottimo uso della voce: una bella sorpresa trovare poi, in chiusura, una canzone come "Sleeping Beauty" cantata in italiano.

I sei pezzi dell'EP dimostrano, in definitiva, che siamo di fronte ad una band che ha tutto il potenziale per poter sfondare: con una produzione di quelle giuste, studiate per esaltare il particolare sound della band, potremmo trovarci di fronte ad una nuova, grande promessa made in Italy.

Segnatevi questo nome perchè secondo me faranno strada: da supportare senza indugio!

This is the second EP from KeeN, the band from Sulmona, Italy, active since 2003: the work of the five band members is as unique as it is dark and has the potential to split its prospective audiences into two camps. The band mixes tranquility with brazenness, EBM rhythms, thrashy riffs, agressive vocals and other styles. The result: songs that seem natural – neither forced nor micromanaged.

The fulcrum of the Keen sound is the work of Kevin: synthetic sampling and loops to get lost in. Fortunately Critz’ sharp riffs keep the listener tethered to reality, and the martial rhythms of Irham on drums recall Rammstein’s “Sehnsucht”.

The group is led by the voice of Shirley, skilled at both charming and chaffing the listener. One beautiful surprise among the tracks is the closing song “Sleeping Beauty”, sung in Italian.

The six tracks of the EP demonstrate, definitively, that we are in the presence of a band with every opportunity to dominate. With a production that highlights the individual sound of the group, we could find ourselves face to face with a great new Made in Italy.

Take note because this group will take off: strongly recommended with no reservations!
