| Quite interesting
this self produced mini Cd by Keen, a five-person
band from the Abruzzi, Italy, fronted by
the histrionic figure of Shirley –
better known as Gianni Buccigrossi, founder
and president of the Italian Marilyn Manson
fan club. This Cd shows fine inventiveness
and pretty good skills in blending a quite
romantic dandy character with martial rhythms
and that light dark wave which is so popular
today but draws its inspiration from old
masters. Here and there, as obvious, the
Cd brings to mind some stuff of Marilyn
Manson – in particular that overly-mannered
glam and the decadence of ‘Mechanical
Animals’. However, the sound that
most influenced Keen is certainly that of
the bursting Rammstein, which unfolds both
in the “soldierly” pace of their
music and in the voice of Shirley, authentic
emulation of Till Lindemann – that’s
not bad. Nothing to object to this very
first tryout – more and more ambitious
goals are likely to look within their grasp
if a more distinct personality will come
out of their work
