Sarà che sono un assiduo seguace del mondo gothic tedesco e sarà che amo allo stesso modo l’elettronica associata alle chitarre metal, ma ricevere questo doppio demo ed ascoltarlo mi ha davvero positivamente sorpreso. I Keen sono 5 ragazzi di Sulmona (L’Aquila), città nella quale nascono nel 2002 come band con l’idea di creare qualcosa di innovativo e veramente valido nella scena musicale italiana.

Le strade musicali che ci riconducono ai Keen sono principalmente da trovare sicuramente nel metal estremo, nell’elettronica e nell’industrial. Love With Bile è un cd incredibilmente bello in tutta la sua interezza, dal primo ascolto si può subito accostare la band ai ben noti Rammstein. Shirley (Gianni), canta quasi specularmene a Till Lindeman, ma la sua vocalità è in un certo senso superiore per estensione, variando dalle tonalità Rammsteriane agli scream in puro stile black metal. Chitarre graffianti, pompatissime su ritmi cyber di batteria e sintetizzatori che spadroneggiano in tutto l’arco del cd. Questi sono i Keen, una fusione molto ben riuscita fra Rammstein, i The Kovenant di S.e.t.i. e Animatronic., e L'EBM di ultima generazione. Bellissime “Love With Bile” e “Scary Dream” una ninna nanna di inquietudine, angoscia e dolore, il brano che probabilmente contiene tutta la natura musicale dei Keen, “Nailing Keen” e “Mr Blind” per il loro ritmo da dance floor, che sicuramente non sfigurerebbero nei dj set di EBM proposti nei nostri locali. Nel secondo cd troviamo, “Ars Amatoria” (canzone ispirata all’omonima opera del sommo poeta Ovidio nato a Sulmona) e “Till death us do apart”, brani nei quali i Keen si aprono a nuove sonorità, volendosi giustamente scrollare di dosso l’etichetta di “risposta italiana ai Rammstein”, molto più gotiche ed introspettive, queste due nuove canzoni hanno l’impronta della maturità musicale che i 5 ragazzi stanno inevitabilmente acquisendo. Inoltre due videos Live “Mr Blind”, registrato durante un concerto e “Ars Amatoria” ripreso dal I.TIM Tour festival 2004, nel quale i Keen si sono qualificati alle finali di Milano, video inseriti per dar modo di vedere come rendano molto bene anche dal vivo.

Insomma, i Keen hanno tutto il mio supporto, rare volte mi sono trovato fra le mani demo autoprodotti così ben confezionati e così puliti nel suono (complimenti a chi ha lavorato su questi due cd), e forse non vorrà dir nulla, ma se il Sig. Marilyn Manson si è scomodato per volerli come supporters di apertura nell’ultimo concerto milanese del 10/12/2003, allora probabilmente qualcosa di veramente buono i keen stanno costruendo.

It could be that I am a follower of the German gothic world or that I love, the same way, electronic sounds associated to metal guitars, but when I received this double demo and listened it I was really positively surprised. KeeN is a band of 5 guys of Sulmona (L’Aquila, Italy), city where the band was born in 2002 with the idea to create something that could be innovative and great in the Italian music scene.

We can find KeeN’s music background in the extreme metal, electronic and industrial music. “Love With Bile” is a very good cd, since the first listening you can compare the band to the famous Rammstein. Shirley (Gianni Buccigrossi), the band singer, sings almost as Till Lindeman but his voice has a higher range, from Rammstein’s tonalities to the pure black metal screams. All the cd is dominated by scratching guitars, hard drums cyber rhythms and synthesizers. This is KeeN, a successful fusion between Rammstein and The Kovenant of S.E.T.I. and Animatronic. Very good tracks are “Love With Bile” and “Scary Dream”, this one is a lullaby made of restlessness, anxiety and pain, this track contains all KeeN’s musical nature; other outstanding songs are “Nailing KeeN” and “Mr Blind” thanks to their dance floor rhythms, they couldn’t make a bad impression in our EBM jet sets. In KeeN’s second cd we can find “Ars Amatoria” (song inspired to the homonym work of the supreme poet Ovidio, born in Sulmona) and “Till death us do part”, tracks that show KeeN’s new sonorities, they want to shake off the comparison to Rammstein; these two songs are more gothic and introspective, they reflect the musical maturity that the band is acquiring. You can find in this second cd two live videos, “Mr Blind”, recorded during a concert, and “Ars Amatoria”, recorded during the I.TIM Tour Festival 2004 (here KeeN arrived to the final in Milan); these videos have been included in the cd in order to show how they well express themselves live.

Well, KeeN have all my support, not very often I can hold in my hands demos self-produced and so well done and clear in sound (my compliments to the people who worked for this two cd). If Marilyn Manson asked them to open his last concert in Milan (December 2003) there must be a very good reason and KeeN are building something very good.
